Malaysia change defensive shape to limit damage in World Cup qualifiers

ESPN FC's Jason Dasey and Alistair Edwards preview AFC World Cup qualifying action involving Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.

Malaysia's group in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers contains three strong teams who appeared at the 2015 AFC Asian Cup, two of whom could embarrass them over the next week.

After just a point from their opening two home games, including a 6-0 humbling by Palestine, Harimau Malaya travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), before hosting Saudi Arabia.

Jefferson Farfan could be unveiled as early as Thursday.

Jefferson Farfan is on the verge of sealing his move to Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates after passing his medical, sources have told ESPN FC.

Last week, sources told ESPN FC that  Al Jazira had lined up a move for Peru international Farfan as they looked to bolster their attacking options.

Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt confirmed on Monday that the German club had agreed a transfer fee in the region of €6 million with Al Jazira for the winger.

Schalke winger Jefferson Farfan agrees deal with UAE club Al-Jazira

Al Jazira are hoping that the impending arrival of Jefferson Farfan will boost their title hopes.

Schalke have confirmed that they have agreed a deal to sell Peruvian attacker Jefferson Farfan to Al-Jazira in the United Arab Emirates.

Sources had told ESPN FC that Farfan, 30, was set to move to Abu Dhabi on a three-year deal.

Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt has now confirmed that the German club have settled on a transfer fee.

"Schalke and Al-Jazira have reached an agreement in principle," Heldt told kicker.

Farfan has been at Schalke since 2008 and his contract is due to expire next June.
