AFC President challenges UAE to match Aussies Asian Cup feat

Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), said there was no doubt the UAE was better equipped than rival bidder Iran to host the continent's biggest football event.

Asian Football Confederation President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa admits that United Arab Emirates have a huge task in front of them to match the success of January's AFC Asian Cup when they host the 2019 edition. 

The UAE was awarded the hosting rights to the 17th edition of the continental championship on Monday, beating off the challenge of Iran.

It will be the second time that the Emiratis have staged the Asian Cup, having hosted the 1996 edition where they made the final, losing...

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) have taken the third place in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup after beating Iraq 3-2 in Friday's third place match in Newcastle.

The UAE were defeated 2-0 by host nation Australia in Tuesday's semifinal after 2007 winners went down by an identical margin to two-time winners South Korea on Monday. Australia and South Korea will face each other in Saturday's final in Sydney.
