Vitaly Mutko set to take control of Russian football union

Vitaly Mutko will take over the vacant position of president of the Russian Football Union.

MOSCOW -- Russian Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko is expected to take control of the country's football association in September.

Mutko is running unopposed for the vacant presidency of the Russian Football Union after cutting a deal with his only rival in the race, nationalist member of parliament Igor Lebedev.

As well as his ministerial role, Mutko is also chairman of Russia's 2018 World Cup organizing committee and a member of the FIFA executive committee.

Russian President Vladimir Putin believes FIFA chief Sepp Blatter is innocent of corruption, and even deserves a Nobel Prize.

Russian FA in denial over racism - Football Against Racism in Europe

Despite investigations of corruption in the bidding to host the 2018 World Cup, Sepp Blatter assures Russian president Vladimir Putin that the country will have FIFA's full support leading up to the tournament.

The Russian Football Union (RFS) is in "denial" over the issue of racism according to anti-discrimination group Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE), and must take a tougher stance ahead of hosting the 2018 World Cup.

The RFS has come under criticism this week for imposing a two-match ban on FC Ufa's Ghanaian player Emmanuel Frimpong for his reaction to alleged racist abuse.

Sepp Blatter: Russia will be 'fantastic host' for 2018 World Cup

2018 World Cup Chief, Alexey Sorokin, claims that questions over the bidding process are behind them.

Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter told Russian president Vladimir Putin that the country would be a "fantastic" host of the 2018 World Cup.

Speaking ahead of the draw for the qualifying stages of the competition, Blatter -- who announced his resignation amid a corruption scandal sweeping world football's governing body - said FIFA had "complete trust" in their Russian hosts.
