FIFA rejects lawmakers' call to re-run Qatar World Cup vote

ESPN FC's Stuart Holden and Shaka Hislop discuss the latest decision made by FIFA that will see the first winter World Cup final set for Dec. 18 in Qatar.

ZURICH -- FIFA has rejected a call by European lawmakers to re-run the vote which chose Qatar as 2022 World Cup hosts.

Responding to a Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe debate on Thursday, FIFA says it has "no legal obligation for FIFA's executive committee to revoke" the decision.

The 47-nation PACE meeting in Strasbourg, France, agreed a re-vote was justified by "illegal payments" linked to Qatari former FIFA power broker Mohamed bin Hammam.

Lawmakers relied on British newspaper The...

The debate follows a report to the 47-nation Council of Europe in January raising concerns about "illegal payments" to help Qatar secure hosting rights.

The report relied on The Sunday Times evidence of emails sent by former FIFA...

Radamel Falcao scores penalty in Colombia's victory; Qatar win again

Radamel Falcao scored his third goal in two games to help Colombia defeat Kuwait.

Radamel Falcao went within one goal of Colombia's scoring record by netting a penalty on Monday to complete a 3-1 victory over Kuwait in a friendly.

Abel Aguilar opened the scoring with a volley in the 22nd minute, but Mesaed Al Enzi equalised following a corner on the stroke of half-time.

After the break, Edwin Cardona put Colombia ahead with a 30-yard blast, and Falcao, who also scored twice against Bahrain last week, drew a penalty on the edge of the box before converting the final goal.

Japan, Iran, Qatar keep Asian flag flying after Australia's heroics

A new-look Japan took the field on Friday night in Valid Halilhodzic's first game in charge, yet it was the old guard who came off the bench in Oita to secure a 2-0 win over Tunisia. It was a solid result and a satisfactory performance.

The Bosnian, who led Algeria to the last 16 at the 2014 World Cup, had promised to shake up a team that has looked in need of exactly that over the past few months. There were only two survivors from the 11 that started the last game, the quarterfinal of the 2015...
