Japan, Iran, Qatar keep Asian flag flying after Australia's heroics

Japan notched a 2-0 win over Tunisia in new head coach Vahid Halihodzic's first match in charge.

A new-look Japan took the field on Friday night in Valid Halilhodzic's first game in charge, yet it was the old guard who came off the bench in Oita to secure a 2-0 win over Tunisia. It was a solid result and a satisfactory performance.

The Bosnian, who led Algeria to the last 16 at the 2014 World Cup, had promised to shake up a team that has looked in need of exactly that over the past few months. There were only two survivors from the 11 that started the last game, the quarterfinal of the 2015...

European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) chairman Frederic Thiriez has said his association would back legal action against FIFA's decision to hold the 2022 World Cup in November and December.

The climate in host country Qatar meant a summer tournament was not considered feasible by FIFA, and the world governing body confirmed in Zurich on Thursday that its 2022 showpiece will run from Nov. 21 to Dec. 18.

The decision will cause significant disruption to European clubs in the 2022-23 season...

Sepp Blatter warns against World Cup 2018 boycott

ESPN FC's Stuart Holden and Shaka Hislop discuss the latest decision made by FIFA that will see the first winter World Cup final set for Dec. 18 in Qatar.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter warned against a boycott of the 2018 World Cup and said the world governing body had every right to move the 2022 tournament to the winter.

Ukraine's president has called for a boycott of the 2018 tournament in protest at Russian military involvement with pro-Moscow separatists.

Blatter responded by claiming the World Cup could actually help bring peace.

He told a news conference in Zurich: "What is 100 percent is that the World Cup will take place in Russia in 2018, that's...
