"It was a huge pride...

President Deryck Shaw said New Zealand lodged an appeal with the Oceania Football Confederation on Friday against both the process and the grounds under which its team was ejected from the tournament in Papua New Guinea.

Shaw said New Zealand Football is also reviewing internal processes and obtaining information "on the small number of players...

New Zealand to launch appeal after Olympic disqualification

New Zealand's Deklan Wynne, centre, competes for the ball at the under-20 World Cup.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- New Zealand Football says it will appeal the decision of the Oceania Football Confederation to disqualify its under-23 team from the regional Olympic qualifying tournament for fielding an ineligible player.

The Oceania disciplinary committee ruled on Sunday that New Zealand should be ejected from the tournament final in Papua New Guinea for playing an ineligible player in a 2-0 semifinal win over Vanuatu.

Vanuatu was awarded the match and went on to play Fiji in Sunday's...
