Ali Faez and Iraq will compete in the Olympics.

Iraq beat Qatar to the last Olympic qualifying place for Asian nations at the Rio de Janeiro Games after a 2-1 win on Friday in a third-place playoff match at the Asian Under-23 Championship in Doha.

The Iraqis join South Korea and Japan -- who play in Saturday's final -- as Asia's three teams in the 16-nation tournament lineup in Brazil.

Qatar hoped to take the Olympics berth as a key stage in their players' development for the 2022 World Cup they will host, and was just minutes from victory.

The result, in front of a passionate home crowd in Amman, gave Jordan a one point lead over the Socceroos with four games remaining.

Jordan's pace troubled the Asian Cup winners for most of the game and the hosts took the lead two minutes into the second half when Hassan Abdel Fattah blasted a penalty high into...

Philippines' home celebrations came to an end Tuesday against powerful Uzbekistan.

After back-to-back wins in the first two matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the Philippines were sent crashing back to earth with a 5-1 loss to Uzbekistan in a rain-soaked match in Bulacan.

The Philippines went into the Group H game full of confidence against a higher-ranked Uzbekistan side, but it would be the Uzbeks who struck with a goal in the first minute of the match.

From then on, the Philippines could only play catch-up, as Uzbekistan pounced on Azkals' defensive errors en...

Thailand's WCQ draw against Iraq shows resilient spirit

Thailand's late comeback helped them to a 2-2 draw against Iraq.

BANGKOK: Thailand fought back bravely to rescue a point with Mongkol Tossakrai's late strike after Iraq had outclassed them for the first hour of this AFC Group F World Cup qualifier.

In Kiatsuak Senamuang's generation's first stern test in a competitive game against an Asian superpower, the Thais were exposed by a superior side before a furious late rally saw them hit back from 2-0 down to earn a 2-2 draw.
