Germany celebrate during their semifinal win over Austria on their way to winning the European U19 Championships in 2014.

For German football fans, the tournament deluge continues unabated. On Sunday, the European U19 Championship starts in Greece and Germany will be looking to retain the title the team won last summer.

They will be also looking to inject the feelgood factor back into German football following the U21's disastrous 5-0 semifinal defeat against Portugal in the European U21 Championship on June 27.

Portugal put five past Germany to reach U21 Euros final against Sweden

Portugal thrash Germany to advance to the U21 European Championship.

Portugal and Sweden both cruised through the semifinals on Saturday to set up Tuesday's Under-21 European Championship final.

Luis Figo and Rui Costa may have stumbled in the final 21 years ago, but it will take a lot to stop Portugal's current crop from triumphing if their 5-0 mauling of favourites Germany is anything to go by.

What was supposed to be an intriguing semifinal battle between the tournament's brightest lights ended in a one-sided masterclass from Rui Jorge's side at the Ander Stadium.

Philipp Lahm, Per Mertesacker may be denied Olympic chance with Germany

The host nation fails to get out of group stage of the U21 European Championship despite drawing with Germany.
Germany U21 captain Kevin Volland bagged a brace in his side's convincing 3-0 victory over Denmark's U21 side.
After conceding an early goal, Emre Can equalised for Germany in their 1-1 draw against Serbia.
Philip Lahm and Per Mertesacker retired from international duty after winning the 2014 World Cup.

Philip Lahm and Per Mertesacker could be denied the chance to represent Germany at the 2016 Olympic Games.

German newspaper Suddeutsche Zeitung has reported that Bayern Munich captain Lahm and Arsenal centre-back Mertesacker, who both retired from international duty after winning the 2014 World Cup, would be interested in playing for Germany in Rio de Janeiro.

Olympic rules permit each team to nominate three players born before Jan. 1, 1993, in their squad, but Germany under-21 coach Horst...
