SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador -- Alfredo Pacheco, El Salvador's most-capped player, was shot and killed by gunmen on Sunday, according to authorities in the Central American nation.
El Salvador's Attorney General's Office and its National Police said unidentified assailants aboard a vehicle approached Pacheco and some of his friends in the city of Santa Ana early on Sunday and opened fire.
Pacheco was killed, while two people accompanying him were injured. Police did not provide a motive for his killing.
MEXICO CITY -- Mexico cruised to a 3-0 win over El Salvador on Friday in the Estadio Azteca in El Tri's opening qualifying match for Russia 2018.
Here are my three quick takes:
1. Easy win in Osorio's debut
Mexico's first kick of its Russia 2018 qualifying campaign was greeted by an "Ole" inside the Estadio Azteca, as were the second and the third. It was that sort of night for El Tri, stripped really of any real test from a poor El Salvador side in the midst of a crisis.
