Bolivia's firing, then re-hiring, of Mauricio Soria points to a FA in chaos

Bolivia boss Mauricio Soria will remain in charge for the September friendlies, but his future is unclear.

Bizarre goings on in Bolivia; the national team coach who's sacking was announced in mid-July will now be staying on. Mauricio Soria will remain in charge for the friendlies early next month against Argentina and the Dominican Republic, and will presumably be the man to lead Bolivia into the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign, which gets underway in October.

Soria fell out with the Bolivian FA last June during the Copa America. He took the team into the quarterfinals, where they went down 3-1...

Chavez was arrested after eight hours of questioning and sent to jail in Sucre, where the prosecutor's office is located.

Bolivia's three-man defence no match for Paolo Guerrero and Peruvian attack

It was Paolo Guerrero's hat trick that propelled Peru to the Copa America semifinals.

Before their match with Peru, Bolivia insisted that no one would be allowed to watch their training sessions. As soon as the teams were announced, it became clear why. In the surprise quarterfinal of the Copa America, Bolivia coach Mauricio Soria had prepared a surprise of his own: Bolivia would line up with three centre-backs.

It is not a formation they had used in Soria's short reign, but it is part of Bolivia's footballing DNA. The last time they used it was in September in a friendly against...

Paolo Guerrero scored his first three goals of the tournament Thursday against Bolivia.

Paolo Guerrero scored a hat trick to hand Peru a 3-1 win against Bolivia and send them into the Copa America semifinals.

Two goals in three first-half minutes set Peru on their way and Guerrero grabbed his third after the break following a howler from Danny Bejarano in his own half.

Marcelo Martins Moreno scored a late penalty for Bolivia but it was mere consolation and Ricardo Gareca's men will now face hosts Chile on Monday in Santiago in the final four.

Peru enjoyed the better of the opening...
