Kevin Wimmer told to take Tottenham chance by Cologne, Austria coaches

Wimmer has been in fine form for Cologne to hand his side a strong chance of staying in the Bundesliga this season.

Cologne defender Kevin Wimmer says he has been advised to take the chance to sign for Tottenham by both his club coach Peter Stoger and Austrian national boss Marcel Koller.

Wimmer, 22, has played the full 90 minutes in all but two matches of his debut Bundesliga campaign, missing out on a 100 percent record following an injury-time dismissal against Eintracht Frankfurt and the subsequent suspension.

Bayern Munich defender David Alaba suffered a knee injury in Austria's 1-1 draw with Bosnia on Tuesday which has sidelined him for seven weeks.

Minutes before half-time, Bosnia defender Ermin Bikcaic fell on Alaba's left knee. Alaba did not emerge for the second half, and later told Austrian reporters he was concerned about the injury.

Austria scored three second-half goals as they thrashed Liechtenstein 5-0 to remain top of Group G.
