David Alaba upset by Austria's disappointing Euro 2016 campaign

Austria captain Christian Fuchs believes the pressure on midfielder David Alaba is unfair.

Austria coach Marcel Koller said "the expectations have been too high" on his squad after they lost 2-1 to Iceland on Wednesday.

David Alaba is hoping Austria's "next chapter" will be more successful following a disappointing Euro 2016 campaign that saw them eliminated at the group stage.

A 2-1 defeat against Iceland followed a goalless draw with Portugal and a 2-0 loss to Hungary, leaving Marcel Koller's side bottom of Group F.

Alaba's contribution has been criticised, with Swiss broadsheet Neue Zurcher Zeitung labelling him "overrated" and the Bayern Munich left-back's role in an advanced midfield position has been questioned.

The Euro 2016 round of 16 is set but for eight teams, the tournament is over.

The group stages of Euro 2016 are complete and for eight teams, the dream is over. Ukraine were the first to go while Republic of Ireland's dramatic winner against Italy meant heartbreak for Turkey.

Elsewhere, the curtain came down on Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Sweden career with a disappointing exit, while Russia endured a nightmare tournament.
