Olympiakos defeat Xanthi in Greek Cup final

Olympiakos celebrate after winning their 27th Greek Cup trophy on Saturday.

ATHENS, Greece -- Olympiakos won the Greek Cup for a record 27th time by beating Xanthi 3-1 in the final in Athens' Olympic Stadium on Saturday.

It was also a record 17th double for Olympiakos, who won their 42nd league title.

Franco Jara, Alejandro Dominguez and Costas Fortounis scored for Olympiakos, while Pantelis Kapetanos netted Xanthi's consolation goal.

Greece escapes suspension as FIFA satisfied by changes

FIFA and UEFA warned the Greek government against passing laws punishing violence at events.

ATHENS, Greece -- FIFA says it is satisfied with changes made to sporting law in Greece, and has dropped a threat to suspend the country from international competition.

In a letter to the government dated May 20 and made public on Friday by the Greek Football Association, FIFA said a law approved by parliament this month to combat violence and match-fixing did "take into account the proposals previously made by FIFA and UEFA."

The Greek Super League has been suspended three times this season due to fan violence.

ATHENS, Greece -- Greece has adopted an amended version of a new sports law aimed at fighting soccer violence and match-fixing, after initial objections from UEFA which threatened to suspend Greece from international competition.

The deputy minister for sport, Stavros Kontonis, says he made "the necessary compromises that do not affect the core of the law."
