Wave of new clubs threatening Germany's old guard

Borussia Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp insists that the quality of German football isn't too far removed from the rest of Europe.

Earlier this week, the fifth team of SC Sternschanze, a club from Hamburg's traditional left wing district St. Pauli, announced in an open letter to the Hamburg FA that they will not play their match against the third team of SC Osterbek.

The Hamburg FA, which, just like Osterbek, has also been supplied with documents and pictures, has taken the allegation...

RB Leipzig owner targets Bundesliga

RB Leipzig secured promotion to the second tier in May.

RB Leipzig owner Dietrich Mateschitz says that immediate promotion to the Bundesliga would be too much to ask, but he does expect the club to reach the top flight of German football in the very near future.

Leipzig gained promotion from the third to the second division last season and they will begin their quest to follow the example set by Hoffenheim in 2008 when the season kicks off on Friday.

"Talking about an obligation to go up in football, and demanding that, would not make any sense," he...
