Over 100 fans arrested after violence before Fluminense vs. Vasco da Gama

Violence occurred outside of the Engenhao stadium on Sunday.

Brazilian police detained more than 100 football fans ahead of a high-profile match in the Rio de Janeiro state championship on Sunday.

Authorities said supporters of Fluminense and Vasco da Gama were taken into custody after fighting outside the Engenhao stadium.

A Brazilian player was taken to a hospital for an anti-rabies shot after being bitten by a police dog during a match.

The incident happened in the second half of a first-division game between Democrata and Tupi in the Minas Gerais state regional championship.

Toronto FC loan excess designated player Gilberto to Vasco da Gama

Gilberto will play in Brazil this season after scoring seven times in MLS last year.

Toronto FC have loaned designated player Gilberto to Vasco da Gama in Brazil, the MLS side announced on Friday.

With the additions of Jozy Altidore and Sebastian Giovinco this offseason, Toronto had four designated players -- one over the MLS limit -- and so needed to unload Gilberto, who signed before last season from Internacional.
