La Liga club Atletico Madrid have taken a share of bankrupt French second-division side Lens along with a group of investors -- some of whom are based in the U.K.

AFP report that Atletico will have a direct 35-percent stake in Lens, with a Luxembourg based company called Solferino -- headed by the Champions League finalists' long-time advisor Ignacio Aguillo -- having the remaining 65 percent.

Lens were relegated from Ligue 1 in 2011, and although the Sang et Or won promotion in 2014, they were not...

Bob Bradley to stay at Le Havre despite painful promotion miss from Ligue 2

Bob Bradley was appointed Le Havre head coach in November 2015.

Bob Bradley has said he will continue as Le Havre head coach despite the "incredible disappointment" of missing out on promotion to Ligue 1.

Bradley's Le Havre won 5-0 against Bourg-Peronnas on Friday but the result was not enough to secure third place in Ligue 2, as Metz progressed to France's top tier at their expense.

Le Havre and Metz both finished on a plus-15 goal difference but the latter boasted 54 to the latter's 52 goals scored this season.

Metz promoted to Ligue 1 over Bob Bradley's Le Havre by tiny margin

FC Metz became the third team promoted to Ligue 1 this season despite a furious late push from Le Havre.

On the final day of the season on Friday, Metz lost 1-0 at Lens while Le Havre, managed by former United States coach Bob Bradley, defeated Bourg-Peronnas 5-0.

Both Metz and Le Havre finished level on 65 points with a plus-15 goal difference, and Metz were awarded third place and promotion because of their superior goals scored -- 54 to Le Havre's 52.

Nancy secure promotion to Ligue 1 with win over Sochaux

Nancy have joined Dijon in winning promotion to Ligue 1 following their 1-0 victory over Sochaux.

The Thistles were relegated in 2013 but, after a solitary goal from Clement Lenglet at the Stade Marcel Picot boosted them 12 points clear of fourth-placed Le Havre, their ascent was confirmed.

Dijon are already sure of a top-three berth while Metz, Le Havre, Red Star, Clermont and Auxerre remain in the hunt for automatic promotion.

Ligue 1 is revamping its promotion/relegation process.

French football will introduce a relegation/promotion play-off between Ligue 1 and 2 from next season, the LFP has announced.

The club which finishes 18th in the 20-team Ligue 1 will face the side which finishes third in Ligue 2 over two legs to determine the final promotion and relegation spots.

"The Board of Directors has decided to introduced play-offs at the end of the 2016/17 season between Ligue 1 and 2,'' a statement said.
