Porto sign Giannelli Imbula from Marseille for €20 million

Giannelli Imbula impressed in midfielder for Marseille to draw the attention of a number of top clubs.

Porto have signed Marseille midfielder Giannelli Imbula for a fee of €20 million.

Imbula, 22, drew favourable comparisons with Patrick Vieira for his leggy build and all-action displays in midfield for OM last season, with the player's father confirming former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti was an admirer.

The player had been linked with Inter and Chelsea among others, but has signed a five-year deal with the Portuguese side with a buyout clause of €50m.

Imbula told the club's...

Former Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gregory Coupet has warned the Ligue 1 champions they risk serious dressing room unrest if they sign Kevin Trapp.

Trapp, 24, is one of Germany's most promising goalkeepers, and is reportedly poised to join PSG in a €10 million deal from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Trapp will challenge No. 1 Salvatore Sirigu for a place in the starting XI, and will push 2014-15 back-up Nicolas Douchez down the pecking order.

With Sirigu, 28, and Douchez, 35, both well-liked...

Benoit Assou-Ekotto signs for St Etienne after Tottenham exit

Benoit Assou-Ekotto was released by Tottenham in February.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and QPR defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto has returned to France to join St Etienne after almost a decade in the Premier League.

Assou-Ekotto, 31, has signed a one-year deal with the Ligue 1 side, crossing back over the Channel to play in the French league for the first time since leaving Lens for Spurs in 2006.

He made over 200 appearances for the North London club, but was loaned to QPR for the 2013-14 season, and did not feature at all for Spurs last term before his contract...

Top 5 transfers in Europe: Martinez, Mandzukic, Imbula, Kondogbia, Castro

The ESPN FC experts discuss Carlos Bacca's possible transfer from Sevilla to AC MIlan, where Alejandro Moreno believes Bacca will be impressive at Milan.

If there's one thing we can be sure of in this summer's transfer window, it's that the Premier League will continue to be the epicentre of big business. The recent transfer of Dimitri Payet from Marseille to West Ham, for example, showed how uneven the playing field is, with a star leaving one of Europe's biggest traditional names for a reported salary of £65,000-a-week that the French giants couldn't dream of paying.

Yet there's plenty going on elsewhere in Europe. Italy is the biggest spender...
