Spurs seek to get City hammering out of system with Euro vision

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino commends Sergio Aguero for his dominant performance.

If Tottenham's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City seemed a disappointment at the time, subsequent results have eased the pain. Arsenal and Manchester United could only draw with teams that they were favourites to beat, while Liverpool struggled to overcome Queens Park Rangers, the worst side in the Premier League. Schadenfreude can be a great leveller.

As mentioned in my review of Saturday's loss, there were definite positives to be taken from the match. If you discount Tottenham's deadbeat defence and...

Time for Tottenham fans to revise expectations downward this season

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino commends Sergio Aguero for his dominant performance.

There were some Tottenham fans who saw many positives in Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City. They were almost certainly the die-hard optimists and those who hadn't made the 400-mile round trip from north London to watch the game. For everyone else, the sense of deja vu and that this is likely to be another long season, low on achievement, was inescapable.

Spurs did have their moments. If Roberto Soldado had converted his penalty to level the score with 30 minutes to play, then a shaky City...

Tottenham seek to tie up Christian Eriksen; Raheem Sterling staying put

ESPN FC's Craig Burley recaps the thrilling Premier League match between QPR and Liverpool in which QPR's two own goals gifted Liverpool a 3-2 victory.
Christian Eriksen seems to have settled in at White Hart Lane.

January will be here before you know it! To tide us over until then, here's today's batch of rumours and gossip.

Spurs to lock up Eriksen

Christian Eriksen seems to finally have settled into his new home at White Hart Lane and, according to The Mirror, if the Danish midfielder has it his way, he won't be going anywhere for a long time.

After a somewhat tumultuous year since coming over from Ajax last August, Eriksen has been thriving. The difference can only be the homey touches of Mauricio Pochettino,...

Player Ratings: Defensive lapses and missed chances for Tottenham

ESPN FC's Steve Nicol recaps Manchester City's comprehensive 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad.

I did nothing that could be construed as exercise on Saturday, yet I feel as if I was in the ring for 12 rounds with Mike Tyson and then ran a marathon with a stone in my shoe.

That's what comes of supporting Tottenham Hotspur. It's an exhausting business, as the 4-1 defeat at Manchester City comprehensively proved. It was a match that perfectly summed up Spurs' glorious interpretation of persistent failure.

Great going forward, woeful in defence, terribly unlucky and always ready to shoot themselves...

Three Points: Manchester City vs. Tottenham

ESPN FC's Steve Nicol recaps Manchester City's comprehensive 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad.

MANCHESTER, England -- A trio of thoughts on Manchester City's 4-1 win vs. Tottenham in the Premier League.

1. The Aguero show

Sergio Aguero takes a while to get up to 100 percent fitness but, when there, he's often unstoppable. His four-goal haul was hugely impressive, yet he might feel he could have had a Premier League record-equalling five, having missed one of his three penalties.

His first goal was typical Aguero: a goal out of absolutely nothing, from a difficult angle in the inside-left position....

Mauricio Pochettino champions change at Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino spoke ahead of his game against champions Manchester City, a team they have struggled against in the past.

It wasn't so much a dismissal as a declaration.

"The reality is I don't remember the results," Mauricio Pochettino said when asked on Thursday about Tottenham Hotspur's two defeats to Manchester City last season.

His team probably can't forget them, much as they'd like to. Those games were not just defeats; they were emphatic humiliations that arguably had more of an impact on Tottenham's dismal 2013-14 season than any others.

The first match, a 6-0 levelling at the Etihad in November, was the one...
