French midfielder Benoit Cheyrou joins Toronto FC

TORONTO -- Former Marseille midfielder Benoit Cheyrou has signed with Major League Soccer and joined Toronto FC.

The 33-year-old Cheyrou could pair with American midfielder Michael Bradley in center of the midfield.

He helped Marseille win the French league title in 2010 and consecutive French League Cups in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

His agreement was announced Thursday.

MLS preseason headlined by potential player strike over free agency

Toronto FC signs Poland defender Damien Perquis

Former Real Betis player Damien Perquis will join Toronto FC for the upcoming season.

Toronto FC continued its active offseason on Monday by signing Poland center-back Damien Perquis.

Perquis, 30, had played for Real Betis in Spain before reportedly terminating his contract this month ahead of his move to MLS.

Toronto has already spent a lot of money this month on attackers, adding U.S. striker Jozy Altidore and Italian playmaker Sebastian Giovinco, and the club has now moved to shore up a backline that plagued it last season.
