Aritz Aduriz netted a late winner as Athletic Bilbao edged a 1-0 victory over Rayo Vallecano at San Mames on Sunday.

The visitors had numerous chances to take the lead in the first half, but Bilbao came out on top after dominating the majority of the second half as they returned to winning ways.

The three points see Ernesto Valverde's men move up two spots to 12th in the Primera Division, while their opponents drop down a place to 14th with four defeats from their last five La Liga matches.

Second half goals from Alberto Bueno and Gael Kakuta saw Rayo Vallecano beat Villarreal 2-0 to pick up their first home victory in almost three months.

The win brought a welcome end to a three game losing streak for the Madrid outfit, widening the gap between them and the relegation zone to seven points.

Perhaps with an eye on his team's Europa League match with Red Bull Salzburg next Thursday, Marcelino made five changes to the team that beat Granada 2-0 the previous weekend, handing a debut to 23-year-old...

Borges hit a rising spot-kick past home goalkeeper Antonio Tono after Abdoulaye Ba was booked for a foul on Sidnei in the box.

Borges had opened the scoring for the visitors in the 10th minute when he forced home a shot from six yards but the hosts equalised 11 minutes later when Alberto Bueno fired home.
