Napoli denied by Diego Farias in six-goal thriller vs. Cagliari

Diego Farias' goal denied Napoli all three points with a leveller for Cagliari.

Cagliari twice came from behind to register an impressive 3-3 draw against Napoli in what was a thrilling end-to-end encounter at the San Paolo.

Napoli went two goals up through Gonzalo Higuain and a terrific long range Gokhan Inler effort before Cagliari levelled either side of the break, through Victor Ibarbo and then Diego Farias.

Belgium doctor feared for Dries Mertens' career after clash of heads

Belgium doctor Kris van Cromburgge has revealed how he feared Dries Mertens may have been paralysed for life after his clash of heads with Wales' George Williams during Sunday's Euro 2016 qualifier.

Mertens was taken straight to hospital after some worrying scenes as he lay immobile on the pitch after clashing with Williams during the 0-0 draw.

It took over a minute for the Napoli forward to regain consciousness and he was kept in hospital for over 24 hours, during which his lower body felt numb.

Rafael Benitez used to live on Merseyside when he managed Liverpool.

Napoli coach Rafael Benitez has defended his decision to return to Merseyside to spend three days with his family during the international break after causing controversy the first time he did it earlier this season.

With his side now up to third in Serie A, Benitez's trip has not received the same level of criticism it did back in September, when the Naples club had made a difficult start to the campaign and he was seen by fans to be abandoning them.

Emanuele Giaccherini's agent 'excited' by Sunderland to Napoli link

Sunderland manager, Gus Poyet spoke to the press following his side's 1-1 draw with Everton, and noted that he believed it was a fair result.

Emanuele Giaccherini is happy at Sunderland but flattered by talk of interest from Napoli, his agent has said.

Italy international winger Giaccherini, 29, has been linked with a return to Serie A, with Napoli reported to be keen to bring him to the club in the next transfer window after losing Lorenzo Insigne to a knee injury for six months.
