Steven Gerrard to be unveiled by Los Angeles Galaxy on July 4

ESPN FC's Adrian Healey and Taylor Twellman break down the Eastern and Western Conference standings and question that with the inclusion of Steven Gerrard, whether or not the LA Galaxy will be in the hunt for the sixth MLS Cup.

The Los Angeles Galaxy have announced former Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard will be unveiled at half-time of the franchise's July 4 home game against Toronto FC.

Gerrard, who signed a designated player contract with the team in January, won't be eligible to make his first MLS appearance until July 8, when the international transfer window opens.

The San Jose Earthquakes triumphed 3-1 over the LA Galaxy at Avaya Stadium courtesy of goals from Chris Wondolowski, Cordell Cato and Clarence Goodson.

Chris Wondolowski scored his ninth goal of the season as the San Jose Earthquakes beat the LA Galaxy 3-1 in the California Clasico.

Matias Perez Garcia added two assists for the Quakes, the first on a well-placed cross that Wondolowski smashed into the net in the 28th minute for a 1-all tie. Wondolowski moved alone into second place the MLS goal race, three behind Columbus' Kei Kamara.

Clarence Goodson gave San Jose the lead in the 53rd minute, heading home Perez Garcia's corner kick.

Frank Lampard targeted by LA Galaxy before New York City FC deal - Arena

LA Galaxy manager Bruce Arena has revealed the MLS club tried to sign Frank Lampard before he agreed a move to New York City FC.

Arena will boast former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in his squad after the midfielder confirmed in January he is to join the side this summer.

But LA Galaxy were also after ex-England international Lampard, who will join New York City FC on July 1 after spending last season on loan at Manchester City having left Chelsea.
