Lille's Sofiane Boufal injury prompts calls for artificial pitch ban in Ligue 1

Sofiane Boufal's (right) injury did not come as a result of contact with another player.

The union representing French footballers has called for artificial surfaces to be banned immediately after Lille's Sofiane Boufal was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Boufal, 22, went off with a knee injury he picked up in the first half of Lille's 1-0 win at Lorient last weekend.

The Morocco international did not hurt himself as a result of contact with an opposing player and the Union Nationale Footballeurs Proffessionnels (UNFP) suggested its members are putting themselves at risk by playing...

Lille kept alive their chances of qualifying for a Champions League place with a 1-0 win at Lorient - their fifth successive victory on the road.

Following a largely uneventful first half, Lille improved from the restart and twice went close in a matter of minutes but Eder saw a seemingly goalbound effort superbly kept out by Benjamin Lecomte before the Lorient goalkeeper denied Morgan Amalfitano with an acrobatic effort.

Despite the hosts' keeper's efforts, though, Lille opened the scoring on 56 minutes...

Angers frustrated Lille throughout their goalless Ligue 1 draw on Wednesday.

PARIS (AP) - Lille dropped points in its quest for a top-five place after drawing 0-0 at home to Angers in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.

Led by the inspired form of highly-rated winger Sofiane Boufal, who has scored 11 league goals this season, Lille had won their previous six league games to shoot up the table.

But their players looked jaded after losing 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain in a hard-fought League Cup final last weekend, struggling to break down a gritty Angers side that kept Boufal quiet and had...

Angel Di Maria scored the winning goal for PSG in Saturday's Coupe de la Ligue final.

Paris Saint-Germain completed the second leg in their quest for a domestic Treble as Angel Di Maria's late strike handed them a hard fought 2-1 win over Lille to clinch the Coupe de la Ligue.

With the score locked at 1-1 with 20 minutes left -- after Javier Pastore's opener was cancelled out by Djibril Sidibe -- it looked like Laurent Blanc's side might go away from the Stade de France empty handed as they were reduced to 10 men, Adrien Rabiot receiving his marching orders for a second yellow card.

However,...

Sofiane Boufal netted a hat-trick as Lille kept alive their hopes of European qualification with a 4-2 win at 10-man GFC Ajaccio.

Lille took an early lead when Boufal acrobatically volleyed beyond Clement Maury but the visitors levelled matters before the break thanks to Gregory Pujol's superbly taken strike.

Ajaccio had to see out the last 20 minutes or so with 10 men when Roderic Fillippi was sent off for a professional foul before Boufal grabbed his second and third of the game to hand the visitors...
