Getafe were relegated from the Primera Division after second-half goals from German Pezzella and Ruben Castro secured Real Betis a 2-1 home win.

Getafe began the day outside the bottom three on goal difference but victory for relegation rivals Sporting Gijon saw them slip into the second tier for the first time since 2004.

Juan Rodriguez's early header threatened to give Getafe a flying start but his effort was saved by Betis goalkeeper Dani Gimenez, while the visitors went close through similar efforts...

Getafe moved out of the Primera Division's bottom three as they came from behind to draw 1-1 against fellow strugglers Sporting Gijon, who finished with 10 men at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Sergio Alvarez volleyed Gijon into the lead early in the second half, but midfielder Nacho Cases was then sent off after collecting a second yellow card in the 56th minute.

The home side eventually made their extra man count with 10 minutes left when substitute Stefan Scepovic headed in an equaliser, but neither side...

Getafe lifted their hopes of avoiding relegation as Pedro Leon and Carlos Vigaray scored in either half to beat 10-man Deportivo La Coruna 2-0.

Leon's powerful finish put the Madrid side ahead in the 41st minute and 21-year-old defender Vigaray scored his first goal for the club to seal the points in the 85th, after Celso Borges was dismissed for a second booking.

Getafe are still in the bottom three but are now level on points with relegation rivals Sporting Gijon and Rayo Vallecano, with two games...

Relegation-threatened Getafe did little to boost their Primera Division survival hopes as they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Valencia.

All the goals came in an entertaining second half and the hosts led after Alvaro Medran and substitute Stefan Scepovic scored to usurp the advantage given to Valencia by former Getafe midfielder Dani Parejo.

Another ex-El Geta player, Paco Alcacer, equalised late on and the hosts had a glorious chance to win it - and climb out of the relegation zone - deep into...

Getafe moved off the bottom spot in the Primera Division with a surprise 2-1 win at Real Sociedad - their first victory in 14 attempts.

That unwanted run went back to mid-January, but they took advantage of Granada beating Levante to move above the latter and earn new coach Juan Esnaider a first win in charge.

Getafe remain in the relegation zone despite picking up a first win since January, but will gain some much needed confidence for the remaining four games as they look to avoid a first relegation...
