Markus Weinzierl
New Schalke boss Markus Weinzierl's contract at Augsburg ran until 2019.

AUGSBURG, Germany -- Bundesliga team Augsburg have appointed Dirk Schuster as their new coach -- replacing Markus Weinzierl, who is moving to Schalke.

Schuster took Darmstadt from the third division to the Bundesliga in straight seasons. The team finished 14th last month, securing another season in the top flight. It was level on points with 12th-placed Augsburg.

Augsburg said Thursday that Schuster is getting a three-year contract.

Weinzierl's contract with Augsburg ran until 2019. However, Augsburg...

Markus Weinzierl set to be named Schalke manager after Augsburg exit

Markus Weinzierl is on the verge of becoming the next manager of Schalke after revealing he'll part ways with Augsburg this summer.

Markus Weinzierl is set to be named Schalke's new coach after he announced he is leaving Augsburg this summer.

Although neither club have yet to discuss the rumours, Weinzierl told Germany's Die Zeit newspaper that he is moving on, saying it was "the right decision for both sides."

"We've achieved everything we could possibly achieve together,'' he added. "Now somebody with fresh ideas and fresh vision must take over.''

That is likely to be Dirk Schuster from Bundesliga rivals Darmstadt. It seems...

Hamburg ended the season on a high with a 3-1 win at Augsburg, whose coach Markus Weinzierl has been linked with the vacant job at Schalke.

Alfred Finnbogason put Augsburg in front, taking advantage of a misunderstanding between Hamburg goalkeeper Tom Mickel and defender Johan Djourou to head the hosts in front.

Augsburg missed several chances to increase their lead and they were made to rue doing so when Michael Gregoritsch curled in a free-kick to bring Hamburg level.

Augsburg left it late to dent Schalke's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season and secure their place in the top flight with a 1-1 draw at the Arena AufSchalke.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar put the hosts in front in the 82nd minute but Daniel Baier's 89th-minute equaliser leaves the Royal Blues three points off fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach and likely to miss out on Champions League football next season.

While Augsburg were still not mathematically safe, they nevertheless allowed...

Augsburg claim credit for Ranieri's 'secret to success' at Leicester

Relive Claudio Ranieri's best moments in an unforgettable season that saw Leicester City crowned Premier League champions for the first time.

Augsburg have claimed responsibility for Leicester City's Premier League title, although they have to share the credit with Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.

In November 2014, Claudio Ranieri was sacked as Greece coach following a run of poor results that culminated in a shock 1-0 defeat to the Faroe Islands.

With the veteran coach needing a bit of guidance to get back on track, a number of Bundesliga clubs offered the Italian the chance to gain some fresh insight. "I want to gain experience...
