Luis Alberto leaves Liverpool for loan at Deportivo La Coruna

Luis Alberto spent last season on loan at Malaga.

Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto has joined Spanish club Deportivo La Coruna on a season's loan.

The former Spain under-21 international completed the move after passing a medical, Deportivo confirmed.

He has not started a Premier League game for Liverpool since arriving from Sevilla for £6.8 million in June 2013, and spent last season on loan in Spain with Malaga.

Defensive reinforcements are high on the agenda of several Premier League teams, as they look to strengthen their respective backlines.

Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto will be allowed to leave the club on loan again next season, sources have told ESPN FC.

Former Spain under-21 international Alberto has struggled to make an impact since arriving at Anfield from Sevilla for £6.8m in 2013.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Malaga, and Deportivo La Coruna are reportedly interested in striking a similar deal for the new campaign.

Alberto has made only nine Premier League appearances for Liverpool, all of them as a substitute,...

Xavi Hernandez dismisses claims over Barcelona-Deportivo La Coruna draw

Andres Iniesta is replaced by Xavi, who makes his 151st appearance in the Champions League and his final match with Barcelona.
ESPN FC's Craig Burley highlights Barcelona's attacking ferocity being key in defeating a resilient Juventus side to claim the Champions League title.

Xavi Hernandez has rubbished allegations that Barcelona eased off to allow Deportivo La Coruna to get the point they needed to escape relegation in the final game of the season.

Barca had already been confirmed as champions ahead of their match with Depor at the Camp Nou, and with an hour gone were 2-0 up.

At that point, Deportivo looked sure to be relegated -- but goals from Lucas Perez and Diogo Salomao salvaged a crucial 2-2 draw for the Galicians.

Captain Alberto Lopo subsequently said that,...

Lionel Messi brought his goal tally to 43 in La Liga this season as Barcelona capped their campaign with a draw.

Xavi's Camp Nou farewell was spoiled slightly as Deportivo La Coruna fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Barcelona and guarantee their Primera Division survival in the process.

Long-serving midfielder Xavi will bring an end to an 18-year Barca career when he leaves for Qatari side Al-Sadd in the summer and Lionel Messi looked to have given him the perfect send-off when he scored in both halves to put the newly-crowned champions into a 2-0 lead.

But Deportivo were fighting for their...

Spanish court releases four suspects in death of Deportivo fan

The death of a rival fan ahead of Atletico Madrid's match with Deportivo la Coruna marred their 2-0 win.

MADRID -- A Spanish court has released four suspects in the death of a fan following a brutal street fight between rival "ultra" groups in the Spanish capital in November.

Madrid's Court No. 20 says the judge released the four men after "statements by two witnesses created more than reasonable doubts about their direct participation in the acts that caused the death."

The court says the four were still charged for having participated in the large fight before the Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La...
