WASHINGTON -- Luis Silva scored early in the first half and goalkeeper Bill Hamid made it stand up in D.C. United's 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

United (16-9-6) snapped a three-game winless streak and beat Philadelphia for the second time in two matches this season, keeping the Union in seventh place in the East, two points shy of a playoff spot.

D.C. United sign coach Ben Olsen to multiyear contract extension

Ben Olsen reached a new deal with D.C. United on Monday.

WASHINGTON -- D.C. United have signed coach Ben Olsen to a multiyear contract extension.

United rewarded Olsen with a new deal on Monday as the club closes in on one of the biggest turnaround seasons in MLS history.

United won only three games last year. This year they lead the Eastern Conference with a 14-9-6 record with a month to go in the regular season.
