Crystal Palace loyalty scheme needs reassessment

Loyalty is a word that's banded around a lot in football. Pundits use it to demise the lack of one-player clubs; fans use it to prove how strong their support is. Even Fabian Delph used the word when he promised he was staying at Aston Villa only to go and do the exact opposite of loyalty as he signed for Manchester City a few days later. But being "loyal" is a badge most football fans wear with pride no matter what's happening at his team.

Real Madrid continued their preseason dominance with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Manchester City.
Real Madrid cruised to a 4-1 win over Manchester City in Melbourne on Friday night.

An inexperienced centre-back pairing for Manchester City played right into the hands of Real Madrid, who ran out 4-1 winners at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in front of 99,382 fans.

A fluid, interchanging front four of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo ran riot against youngsters Jason Denayer and Cameron Humphreys in the first half, and goals by Benzema and Ronaldo within four minutes of each other gave the Spanish side a comfortable lead inside the first 25 minutes.

Can Bamford replicate Championship success at Crystal Palace?

Patrick Bamford isn't the striker most Crystal Palace fans envisioned signing, but he shows promise.

No Crystal Palace fan is going to admit that Patrick Bamford was their first choice as the club's new striker, but like getting into your second choice of university and finding it's actually a better fit, the England U-21 forward could turn out to be a very smart acquisition indeed.

Crystal Palace sign goalkeeper Alex McCarthy from QPR on four-year deal

Alex McCarthy will remain in the Premier League this season with Crystal Palace after moving from relegated QPR.

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of QPR goalkeeper Alex McCarthy on a four-year deal.

The 25-year-old stopper, who made the move to Rangers from Reading in August and made three appearances in the top flight for them last season, joins the Premier League club for an undisclosed fee.

The former England under-21 international was delighted to make the move to Selhurst Park, and told his new club's official website: "I'm over the moon.

Patrick Bamford signs new Chelsea contract, joins Crystal Palace on loan

It remains to be seen if Patrick Bamford, the winner of the 2014-15 Player Of The Year in the Championship with Middlesbrough, will get a chance to shine with parent club Chelsea.
Patrick Bamford will now have first-team chances in the Premier League with Chelsea.

Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford has completed a season-long loan move to Crystal Palace after signing a new three-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

Bamford, 21, won the Championship Player of the Year award for his displays at Middlesbrough last season, and has committed his long-term future to Premier League champions Chelsea.

He scored 19 goals as Boro lost the playoff final to Norwich, and will now look to prove he can replicate such form in the top flight with Palace.
