Espanyol handed Primera Division basement boys Cordoba a sixth straight defeat with a 1-0 home win on Friday night.

Abraham struck a low shot into the bottom corner from outside the area to settle the contest and keep the visitors five points from safety.

The win moved Espanyol up to eighth place, but for their opponents the situation is rapidly becoming desperate. They have not taken a single point since a 1-1 draw with Eibar in mid-January.

Valencia tightened their grip on fourth place in the Primera Division standings by beating Cordoba 2-1 thanks to a late winner by Pablo Piatti.

Andre Gomes gave the visitors the lead towards the end of the first half but Nabil Ghilas levelled for the league's bottom side in the 72nd minute, only for Piatti to put Valencia in charge again with nine minutes remaining.

This was a hard-fought but deserved victory for Nuno Espirito Santo's side, who have now won back-to-back away games for the first time...

Sevilla snapped a two-game losing streak with a comfortable 3-0 derby win over struggling Cordoba.

Grzegorz Krychowiak headed in the opener from a corner on 39 minutes and then Carlos Bacca scored from close range just before half-time, and any hope of a Cordoba fightback in the second half soon vanished when Patrick Ekeng was shown a straight red card for striking out at Vitolo.

Krychowiak was then also given his marching orders for a dangerous tackle, but Vicente Iborra's headed goal put the game...

Cordoba face 140km training trip after pitches burned through 'sabotage'

Cordoba sit 19th in La Liga, two points from safety.

"Sabotage" at Cordoba's training ground means the Spanish club's first-team squad may have to train over 140 kilometres away in Seville for the remainder of the season.

Persons unknown have on at least two occasions through recent weeks entered Cordoba's training ground and used chemical products to severely burn the grass on its pitches. The surface is now so ruined that training there would now be dangerous for players, club president Carlos Gonzalez has said.

Two quick-fire goals from Michel Macedo saw Almeria come from behind to win a relegation six-pointer at Cordoba 2-1.

Fede Cartabia's free-kick had given the hosts the lead after 10 minutes but defender Macedo equalised just after the hour mark and four minutes later combined again with Arsenal loanee Welington Silva to head in the winner.

Almeria have now won back-to-back games and move further away from the relegation zone and on to 22 points, sending Cordoba back into the bottom three.
