Gaby Mudingayi of AC Cesena, left, and Salih Ucan of AS Roma battle for the ball in their Serie A match on Sunday. Roma won the game 1-0.

Daniele De Rossi's first-half strike handed Roma all three points at relegation-threatened Cesena on Sunday night.

The visitors, looking for their first Serie A win since February 8, took the lead at the Dino Manuzzi stadium in the 41st minute when De Rossi hit the back of the net for his first goal away from home in Italy's top flight since August 2013.

The victory has kept Roma in second place but just one point clear of city rivals Lazio, who clinched their sixth straight victory with a 2-0 triumph...

Rodrigo Palacio's second-half goal earned Inter a point against Cesena.

Inter Milan's hopes of qualifying for Europe next season were dealt a blow as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Cesena.

Gregoire Defrel gave the visitors the lead after half-an-hour, with Rodrigo Palacio earning Inter a point just after the break.

Both sides had chances to win an entertaining clash at the San Siro, but they had to settle for a point which does little to help either in their respective bids for Europe and survival.

Palermo were held to a goalless draw at relegation-threatened Cesena on Sunday afternoon to extend their winless away run to eight games.

The Sicilians were the better side at the Dino Manuzzi Stadium but lacked the finishing touch.

Cesena almost clinched all three points in the 87th minute but Hordur Magnusson's powerful header from Franco Brienza's cross was saved by Palermo goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino.

A strike from substitute Alejandro Rodriguez helped relegation-threatened Cesena claim a 1-0 victory over Udinese.

The Spanish forward headed home the winner in the 76th minute to hand the hosts just their fourth win of the campaign.

The result allowed Cesena to close the gap on Atalanta, who hold the last position of safety, to four points while Udinese dropped to 13th place after suffering a third successive defeat.

AC Milan boss Filippo Inzaghi lives to fight another day

Giacomo Bonaventura opened Milan's account in the 22nd minute.

The narrative all week has been that Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi faced being sacked if he was unable to inspire his players to a win over Cesena at San Siro on Sunday. Fortunately for all concerned, the Rossoneri secured a 2-0 win over their Serie A opponent, and so Inzaghi lives to fight another day.

It is unclear how long the victory will have bought him, but wins will certainly take the pressure off and build confidence. In turn, that may convince the Milan hierarchy that there is still fight...
