Empoli recovered from a two-goal deficit to pick up their first point of the season, although they could have got more from their trip to Cesena on Saturday.

Two goals in as many minutes from Guido Marilungo and Gregoire Defrel gave Cesena the lead against the run of play in the first half as Empoli were punished for their wastefulness.

However, Francesco Tavano brought the Tuscans back into the game with a penalty early in the second half before Daniel Rugani, the culprit of most of Empoli's first-half...

Lazio claimed their first win of the new Serie A season as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over Cesena on Sunday.

The hosts released all of their frustration at losing their league opener at AC Milan on a Cesena side that failed to even manage a single shot on goal throughout the clash at the Stadio Olimpico.

Antonio Candreva celebrated his 300th league appearance in style by scoring his team's opener in the 19th minute, before setting Marco Parolo up for Lazio's second. Substitute Stefano Mauri made...

Cesena won for the first time on the opening day of a Serie A season with Alejandro Rodriguez's goal clinching a 1-0 victory over Parma.

Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game in the 38th minute with Cesena then relying on the saves of goalkeeper Nicola Leali to preserve their advantage.

For Parma, defeat in an Emilia-Romagna derby was the latest low of a summer of discontent following their disqualification from the Europa League, despite finishing ahead of Torino in Serie A last season, due to...

Cesena seal promotion to Serie A

Cesena players celebrate their promotion to the Italian top flight.

Cesena became the 20th member of Serie A for 2014-15 after completing a 4-2 aggregate victory over Latina in the Serie B playoffs.

While most football fans were engrossed in the World Cup, for over 11,000 followers of Cesena and Latina, a lot more was at stake on Wednesday night. The crowning glory or a bitter ending to 10 months of hard labour was decided at the Stadio Francioni.

For Latina, who ended the regular season in third -- one position and two points above Cesena -- it was a case of the...

Cesena promoted to Serie A

Alessandro Bruno celebrates after scoring for Cesena.

Cesena have secured their return to Serie A with a 2-1 win over Latina in the Serie B promotion playoff final second leg, securing a 4-2 aggregate win.

Latina had levelled the tie on aggregate when Alessandro Bruno scored after 13 minutes, but Gregoire Defrel levelled on the night seven minutes into the second half before Emmanuel Cascione's stoppage-time penalty rubber-stamped Cesena's promotion.

It ends a two-year stint in the second tier for Cesena, who are currently coached by Pierpaolo Bisoli...
