Javi Guerra's strike 12 minutes from time ensured Malaga claimed a 1-1 draw at Atletico Bilbao, whose four-game losing streak in the Primera Division was brought to a halt.

Guerra's strike came just eight minutes after defender Mikel San Jose had given Bilbao the lead.

It was the second time the teams had drawn against each other in a week, following on from their stalemate in the Copa del Rey at La Rosaleda.

The teams will return to San Mames on Thursday, when there must be a winner as both sides target...

Athletic Bilbao coy on interest in Real Madrid's Asier Illarramendi

ESPN FC's Gab Marcotti weighs in on the latest transfer news and rumours in January's window, including Real Madrid's new signing Lucas Silva.

Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde remained coy when asked about his side's interest in signing Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

Illarramendi's future at the Bernabeu is uncertain following the arrival of Lucas Silva from Cruzeiro, and the Madrid midfielder told AS last week: "If he comes or if the club says something, they'll tell me what my options are. Right now, I don't know anything. The club hasn't said anything."

Athletic are widely reported to have a strong interest in the 24-year-old...

Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti has 'full confidence' in Asier Illarramendi

The ESPN FC crew discuss the learning opportunity that 16-year-old Martin Odegaard will be afforded at Real Madrid and look ahead to what the future may have in store for the young Norwegian international.
New Real Madrid signing Martin Odegaard was introduced to the media on Thursday.
Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record with 17 goals in a Champions League season in 2013/14, and will be seeking yet another title in 2015 with Real Madrid.
ESPN FC's Sid Lowe indicates a return to Spain is an option David de Gea has considered and believes Real Madrid would be tempted to sell Gareth Bale.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti says he has full confidence in Asier Illarramendi and wants to keep him at the club, despite reports the midfielder is set to move during the January transfer window.

Illarramendi, 24, has been heavily linked with a 20 million-euro move to Athletic Bilbao, with Marca also claiming that Premier League side Arsenal were interested in the all-round midfielder with Madrid reportedly close to signing Brazilian starlet Lucas Silva as a replacement.

However, Illarramendi...

Villarreal got their bid for a top-four finish back on track with a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Athletic Bilbao.

An expertly-taken first-half goal from Denis Cheryshev put the hosts on course for a first Primera Division win of the year and Bruno Soriano's late penalty put the result beyond doubt.

Victory helped Villarreal bounce back from successive league draws, albeit away from home, which had dampened their Champions League challenge.

Opponents Athletic offered little and could have no complaints...

Elche moved off the foot of the Primera Division standings on Sunday courtesy of a 2-1 victory at Athletic Bilbao.

Victor Rodriguez put the visitors ahead in the 17th minute at San Mames and Faycal Fajr doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half.

Mikel San Jose pulled a goal back in the 73rd minute but that was as good as it got for the hosts, as Elche - thrashed 5-0 by Barcelona in the Copa del Rey in midweek and beset by financial troubles - held on for only their third win in La...
