It was a day when even the lizards were gasping for breath.

Sweat pours from beneath the bill of Robert Hamilton's cap, which frames a face becoming increasingly crimson despite a liberal coating of sunscreen, as he laboriously winches a deep diving crank while standing on the front deck of his Triton. There is a war going on between the Mississippi heat and the famous Deep South humidity. The surface of Ross Barnett Reservoir is tabletop slick, not a hint of breeze on this August morning.
