It's been ages since the world record largemouth was landed, weighed and eaten. Will a bigger bass ever be caught?

Seventy years is a long time for anything. Especially for a sporting record that has taken on countless challenges from all comers — and endured.

While George W. Perry could not have gauged the magnitude of his 22-pound, 4-ounce bass taken June 2, 1932, from Montgomery Lake, Ga., he nevertheless created a record of legendary proportions. It has become the very fabric of bass fishing lore for several generations of anglers, an accomplishment so overpowering and unassailable that a large percentage of serious bass anglers can recite the details of the catch as quickly as their own social security numbers.
