BASS tournaments take place on huge bodies of water over several days of competition. But did you ever wonder how a BASS pro would fare on your home lake — that little body of water down the road where you and your buddies fish for bass? That's the premise behind Bassmaster's "reality" series, "A Day on the Lake." Here, we put the top names in competitive bass fishing on small lakes they've never seen before, and then give them seven hours to figure out a viable pattern, logging everything they do to find and catch bass in timeline fashion.

This month, veteran Meers, Okla., pro Ken Cook steps up to the plate. A former fisheries biologist, Cook has qualified for 14 Classics and won the 1991 Classic on Chesapeake Bay. Here's what happened November 16, 2004, when we put Cook on Lake Y, a 700-acre reservoir somewhere in the South. What follows should help you score bass in the often tough fall/winter transition period.
