California turns out more monsters

In any state other than California, an 18-pounder would send shock waves through the bass fishing community. But here the bar has been raised so high that anything under 20 pounds only gets a passing notice.

What has raised a few eyebrows in the Golden State is not so much the 18.62-pound bass Galen Jensen caught Feb. 3, 2002, but where it was caught. It wasn't a trout-stocked water to the south, but northern California's noted bass powerhouse — the California Delta.
