It all began, as many adventures do, with a book. Within the first couple of chapters of The Complete Wilderness Paddler, I was enrapt with the idea of undertaking a long, remote float trip.

The book chronicles the experiences of four men as they floated the Moisie River in Labrador. I was not satisfied with reading about their adventure — I wanted one of my own. Unable to afford a trip to Canada, I settled for the wilds of West Texas' Pecos River.
