Beyond comfort

I had moved beyond answering the question and had climbed onto my soapbox

Outfitter Jim Clark began the orientation session for our wilderness canoeing/fishing trip with a question: "What do you hope to get out of this experience?"

He didn't ask it of me, specifically, but I didn't wait for anyone else in our party to respond. I had answered it a dozen times, whenever someone wondered why in the world I would drag my patently feminine 16-year-old daughter, Katherine, along on a canoeing adventure into bear- and black fly-infested Quetico Provincial Park in Ontario.
