Comments
An athletic cover corner with explosive speed. He's the fastest prospect in the 2005 NFL draft class. Also has great quickness, COD skills and leaping ability a 3.91 short shuttle and 41 ½" vertical jump. Shows fluid hips and excellent body control. Can mirror quicker WR's on double moves. Shows balance in his pedal and very good burst out of his pedal. Drives on the ball in front of him quickly. Has very good instincts and will consistently get early breaks on the ball. Is a natural playmaker. Is durable and consistent.. Is a hard worker on the field, in the classroom and in the weight-room. Has diligently worked to get bigger and stronger. Lacks ideal size. Is on the shorter side, lacks bulk and strength. Isn't overly physical in coverage. Gets pushed around by bigger receivers and allows receivers to dictate their own routes too often. Will have limitations in coverage versus bigger NFL WR's. Is willing versus the run but not overly effective. Hands are inconsistent. Made a lot of plays in college but also dropped a lot of potential interceptions. Washington started 11-of-13 games as a true freshman in 2002 and all 13 games as a sophomore in 2003. He started all 11 games as a junior in 2004 and finished with 41 total tackles, three interceptions and a team-high 15 PBU. Washington finished his three-year career at Nebraska with 11 interceptions and 38 passes broken up. Washington decided to leave school a year early and ran the fastest time at the 2005 scouting combine with a 4.29 in the 40-yard dash. Washington lacks ideal size, isn't much of a factor in run support and won't match up well versus bigger receivers in the NFL. However, Washington is the fastest prospect in this year's draft class and he also is a smooth athlete with very good instincts and intelligence. Washington has the cover skills to potentially develop into a Fred Smoot-type cover corner in the NFL. At the very least, he should become an excellent slot-cover corner in the nickel package. In our opinion, Washington is a late-first or early second round prospect that likely will come off the board in the first round because of his rare speed.
