FB (6-0, 260, 4.75)
Has an ideal frame. Has ideal height, is well built, and is powerful. Has very good vision and quickness as a blocker. Is quicker than fast and has adequate lateral movement. He does a nice job of playing with leverage and driving through his blocks. He does a better than average job of hitting the moving target in space. Is technically sound. Shows good initial pop and works to finish. Has improved his hands. Does a good job of looking the ball in and getting upfield immediately. Is a powerful runner that can be tough to bring down once he gets going. Not a great athlete. Lacks speed and elusiveness as a runner. Shows some ability to push the pile as a short-yardage runner but is a straight-line guy that lacks burst to the hole. He is a bit stiff and has trouble adjusting to the ball thrown away from his frame. Has adequate but not great speed. Lack of agility could cost him as a space blocker in the NFL. Jefferson was a key blocker for RB Larry Johnson when he rushed for over 2,000 yards in 2002, but he chose to use his redshirt season in 2003 rather than splitting time with Sean McHugh that season. Jefferson graduated early, returned for his fifth-year senior season as the Nittany Lions' starting fullback in 2004 and finished with 16 receptions for 106 yards and four carries for three yards. Jefferson was a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection prior to his senior season. There is nothing exciting about Jefferson as a runner or receiver but he is big, well built and can be overwhelming at the point of attack as an isolation blocker. He has a good combination of quickness, size and strength, and he is one of the best lead blockers in this class. Jefferson picked up in 2004 where he left off after missing an entire season. His lack of versatility limits his upside but as far as blocking fullbacks go in the 2005 draft; Jefferson ranks among the elite. As a result, Jefferson should be selected somewhere in the final three rounds of the upcoming draft.
