Overall: Holmes was a backup tight end as a freshman in 2000 and a sophomore in 2001 before taking over as a starter in 2002 when he finished with 29 receptions for 320 yards and two touchdowns. He suffered a back injury and missed the entire 2003 season but returned healthy as a fifth-year senior in 2004 and finished with 24 receptions for 244 yards and zero TD's. Holmes is on the shorter side, lacks good speed and obviously has some durability concerns, but he is an experienced, consistent and reliable blocker and short-to-intermediate receiver. He had a good senior season and followed it up with an outstanding Senior Bowl. Holmes has physical limitations that may prevent him from ever developing into a fulltime starter in the NFL but if used correctly he could become an excellent weapon in the underneath passing game and a solid blocker in space as ...
