Overall: Grootegoed redshirted in 2000 and moved from safety to linebacker in '01, where he started seven games but missed four because of a shoulder injury. He has been USC's starting SLB since. He missed four games and parts of two others as a result of a lingering and severely sprained ankle as a junior in '03. In the nine games he did play, he finished with 41 total tackles, including 4.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. As a senior in 2004, Grootegoed started all 13 games and finished with 68 tackles, 13.5 TFL, six sacks, three INT's, eight PBU, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Grootegoed doesn't have the position niche or the measurables of an NFL player but he'll find a way to make a roster and contribute.
