With the signing of San Francisco 49ers linebacker Julian Peterson this week, the gates have been opened for the very predictable "holdouts return" procession.

In almost comical fashion, players such as Rams tackle Orlando Pace, Raiders cornerback Charles Woodson and Seahawks tackle Walter Jones will all make their annual appearances as camp ends and teams start to make cuts and prepare for regular season action.

Why now you ask? Well, it's simple. NFL players don't get paid "real money" until the regular season starts. None of these players can afford to miss a check of $450k per week (1/17th of an $8 million base salary) like Jones or Pace are set to receive.
