This NFL season, we're giving you, SportsNation, the opportunity to cast your vote of approval, or disapproval, of the job your favorite team's head coach is doing. Is he molding a winning team and inspiring championship-level play from his team? Or is he constantly tinkering with the offense and defense resulting in sloppy, erratic play? Is he making good decisions on the field and saying all the right things off the field? Or is he making crucial mistakes that cost the team games and then deflecting the blame?

The following are the latest results from the 2008 SportsNation NFL Head Coach Approval Ratings:

lukyoldson: Arizona has to be the most overrated team in professional football. They're at home, need momentum into the playoffs and are barely hanging on with one of the very worst teams in the sport. Poor coaching, lack of effort and a team that really doesn't know the first thing about winning. Vote

I mean, your defense is terrible so you have to score as many points as possible to win. This is pathetic and shows that while Drew Brees can get big yards, he can not win important games. Vote

Mangini out after late-season collapse
Eric Mangini's tenure in New York began with a lot of promise, but he never seemed to be able to get his team over the hump. Mangini was fired Monday after a 9-7 season in which his Jets went 1-4 in the final five games, missing a playoff spot in the process. Some fans despised Mangini, but most had a nuanced view of his time with the Jets:

Eumemes316: I loved listening to upper management pass the buck, because at the last minute they screwed up the team chemistry by bringing in Favre, and getting rid of the on-field leader in Chad Pennington. It does not matter what you say. Favre did not fit the mold for what this team needed at QB. They needed a game manager to complement the running game. You know exactly what Pennington brought to Miami. Take away the Arizona game, and Favre threw 16 TDs to 22 INTs. Signing a big name does not make you better if the big name does not fit with the system, and personnel. I hope Eric goes somewhere where he can hand it to the Jets and the Pats.

youngvince1823: A 39-year-old QB didn't doom the Jets. It was the coaching "staff" as a whole, not just the head coach. He gave up on the run game too many times during games when he should have stuck with it. Thomas Jones has around 1200 yards and Leon Washington is a touchdown threat anytime he touches the ball. Why not pull a "Steelers" game plan out the works and run the ball around 75 percent of the game, limiting the 39-year-old QB to around 20-25 passes a game? Poor decisions and lack of player motivation got Mangini fired!

Shamwowzers: I've been saying for months now that Mangini is one of the worst coaches ever. His calls and no show of confidence are atrocious.

mvaccaro304: This is an absolutely awful and desperate move by the Jets front office. They're putting the blame solely on his shoulders is absurd. If he goes, the whole front office needs to go to for the bad decision-making and collapse of this team over the last five games. Two winning seasons in three years with at best a mediocre team is not grounds for being fired.

brocklin000: 23-26 record and a total collapse at the end of this season and some still think he is a good coach? Bewildering. Within the pro coaching fraternity he is dead meat after pointing out Belichick's dastardly deeds. While what Belichick did was not 'fair up', reality is that the taping of practices does not assure a win and probably had marginal -- if any -- impact on the actual games. The other thing is that this stuff goes on throughout the league in various forms -- Belichick was nailed only because of Mangini's big mouth.

bennsavannah: It wasn't all Mangini's fault, though his coaching decisions and style cost us the playoffs this year. I still don't understand how you can beat Tennessee by 3 TDs and lose to Oakland, Seattle, and San Francisco in the same season.

Prismo: I don't see how Jets fans could blame Mangini more than Favre. Favre finished the season with a poor 81.0 passer rating (good for 21st in the league) and he's only getting older. Favre completely blew it this year, despite Mangini turning a 4-win team into a 9-win team in one year.

raortegajr: This is another completely miscalculated move by the Jets front office. Instead of keeping Mangini, who has turned the Jets around in one season, they disregarded success and fixed the one thing on this broken team that worked. The last I heard, going 9-7 a year after a four-win season is a success and is promising for following years. Since when was success in the NFL defined by making a Super Bowl run a year after being one of the league's worst teams? This move is the last thing the Jets need and could have serious consequences. crimsonandbluejayhawk: As for Marvin Lewis, there's a chance he'll get fired, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't. He's not that bad, he just had to deal with tough times in Cincinnati, with Carson Palmer getting injured, and Chad Johnson (what else needs to be said about Ocho Cinco?). Norwood scores two TDs as Falcons win
ATLANTA -- Mike Smith had a simple question for his Atlanta Falcons as they looked ahead to the playoffs: "Why not us?" Smith asked. The Falcons, who held off the St. Louis Rams 31-27 on Sunday to clinch the No. 5 seed in the NFC, may believe anything is possible in the playoffs after their improbable regular season. In his first year as coach, Smith and rookie quarterback Matt Ryan led the Falcons to an 11-5 record one season after a 4-12 finish. "We came a long way," said Jerious Norwood, who ran for two touchdowns, including the go-ahead 45-yard run with 3:41 left. "Whoever would have thought we'd be in the playoffs?" Atlanta's hopes of winning the NFC South and gaining a first-round bye ended with Carolina's 33-31 win at New Orleans. The Falcons had hoped for a home game but instead will travel to NFC West champion Arizona for a wild-card game next week. Michael Turner added 208 yards rushing with a touchdown to counter Steven Jackson's 30 carries for 161 yards and two touchdowns for St. Louis. Soon after Norwood's go-ahead touchdown late in the game, the video board posted a score that showed New Orleans leading Carolina 31-30. Wins by the Falcons and Saints would have given Atlanta the division championship. Some ... Vote
