Chargers weren't afraid to clean house

SAN DIEGO – The phone calls normally roll in at this time of year to players in cities like Philadelphia and Green Bay and Indianapolis and Foxborough, Mass. But San Diego?

Maybe there are calls about offseason tee times and cruises and Hawaiian vacations. But not playoff tickets. Not until now, anyway.

"A few so far," San Diego RB LaDainian Tomlinson said before the Chargers' Dec. 12 game against Tampa Bay. "It started last week."

It doesn't figure to stop any time soon. San Diego leads the AFC West by two games with only three to play and is closing in on its first postseason berth since 1995.
