Heap, Shockey gaining ground on Gonzalez

Shannon Sharpe finished his career with more touchdown receptions (82) and receiving yards (10,060) than any other tight end in league history. The fact that his production didn't tail off dramatically during his final season in the league is even more impressive. Sharpe finished second to Kansas City's Tony Gonzalez in both receiving yards and TD receptions last year.
With Sharpe gone, there is no question that Tony Gonzalez is the most accomplished tight end in the league. He is a five-time Pro Bowler who has led all tight ends in receiving yards three out of the past five seasons. In fact, Gonzalez is on pace to break both of Sharpe's records.
However, there are a number of younger tight ends who will look to knock Gonzalez off his pedestal as the best in the league right now and perhaps set some records of their own.
