Competition committee should address timeouts, forceouts

One big issue this season is the use -- and abuse -- of timeouts. Next March, the competition committee should give that and another issue heavy consideration, Len Pasquarelli writes.

The NFL competition committee, the influential group that essentially shapes the game's playing rules, always has a lot to consider when it huddles every March in advance of the annual league owners meeting.

And next year the committee, co-chaired by Atlanta general manager Rich McKay and Tennessee head coach Jeff Fisher, figures to spend considerable time discussing rules governing timeouts. Given what has transpired this season, the committee had better carve some time out for a broad discussion of timeouts.
