Policy change went undetected

In speaking with Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Tice on Monday night, I asked him about the end of running back Onterrio Smith's four-game suspension for violation of the league's substance abuse policy.

"How did Onterrio look to you today when he reported?" I asked.

"Well," said Tice, "the same he looked last week and the week before that."
