Tennessee Vols capture top 2010 kicker Michael Palardy

Michael Palardy, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound kicking prospect from St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), has given a Class of 2010 commitment to the Vols over LSU.

Alabama, Syracuse, Miami-Florida, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Stanford and Auburn have also offered.

"Knoxville itself is really beautiful and it felt like a home away from home," Palardy told the Sun-Sentinel. "I know I'll be around the right people and with the coaching staff and the facilities, I was blown away. I took a look around and I found no comparison to Tennessee."

The talented kicker finished his junior season with 76-78 on extra points, four out of five on field goals and 98 percent of all kickoffs were touchbacks.

Tennessee now has 12 pledges.

Florida running back Donnell Kirkwood will play for the Gophers

Donnell Kirkwood of Atlantic (Delray Beach, Fla.) has accepted a Class of 2010 offer from Minnesota.

The 5-foot-8, 195-pound running back was also offered by Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Kansas State. He rushed for 1,013 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior.

The Gophers now have 10 commitments.

Standout kicker Drew Basil is headed to the Buckeyes

Ohio State has landed its 8th commitment for the Class of 2010 in kicker / punter Drew Basil of Chillicothe, Ohio. He was also offered by Purdue, Kentucky, Cincinnati and Air Force.

"We talked to coach Tressel for about an hour," Basil told ESPN affiliate Web site Bucknuts.com. "It just all felt right. It felt like it was the place for me. I just felt like I was at home."

As a junior, Basil made eight of 12 field goal attempts with a 50-yard long, had 23 touchbacks on 52 kickoffs, was 35-37 on extra points, and averaged 40.2 on punts.

Offensive lineman Conner Davis to play ball in-state at Virginia

The Cavs have gained their 8th Class of 2010 commitment in 6-foot-6, 270-pound offensive tackle Conner Davis of Deep Run (Glen Allen, Va.).

Davis was also offered by Virginia Tech, Maryland, Wake Forest, Syracuse, West Virginia and Boston College.

He spoke with the Richmond Times-Dispatch about his pledge, "It was tough, especially with Tech being a recent powerhouse and having really good things going on up there. But it was hard for me to think about going to another school when all I could think about was sitting in the stands watching U.Va. play and just dreaming about playing there. That just kept coming back to me, and I couldn't avoid it. Ultimately, it was just a dream come true, and that's why I picked Virginia."

Davis, a second team all-metro selection as a junior, is the first commitment along the offensive line for the Cavs.

Defensive back Antonio Burton of Guyer (Denton, Texas), has made a decision to accept a Class of 2010 scholarship offer from Kansas.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound prospect turned down offers from Arizona, UTEP and Tulsa.

Burton is the 6th commitment for the Jayhawks.

San Diego State snares a 2010 quarterback from Texas

Quarterback Adam Dingwell of Rockwell, Texas, has committed to the Aztecs.

The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Dingwell chose San Diego State after taking part in its football camp.

Dingwell, who played tight end and free safety as a sophomore, started at quarterback as a junior and completed 124-of-201 pass attempts for 1,731 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also rushed for 171 yards and three touchdowns.

The Aztecs now have six pledges for the Class of 2010.

Central Florida now has eight commitments.

Cougars pluck Commonwealth prospect Jordan Johnson

BYU Head coach Bronco Mendenhall and his BYU staff have added a Class of 2010 pledge from Jordan Johnson, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound cornerback from Springfield, Mass. / Brooks School (North Andover, Mass.).

Johnson, who is non-LDS, also had offers from Tulsa and Connecticut.

He told the Salt Lake Tribune, "It will be good for me to get out West and become a part of another culture. It came down to UConn and BYU, and although I would probably be more comfortable socially at UConn, I decided BYU was the better place for me."

Johnson's uncle works with former BYU standout Danny Ainge for the Boston Celtics. "Danny Ainge and Austin Ainge, his son, couldn't stop talking about how great BYU is, so I had to get out there and see for myself," Johnson added.

Big East Huskies top in-state programs for Reuben Frank

Connecticut has gained its second Class of 2010 commitment in Reuben Frank, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound defensive end from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Syracuse and Buffalo has also offered the prospect.

He told the Hartford Courant, "God forbid something happens to me and I'm never able to play again? I'm messed up. I've always looked at things that way. UConn is a great academic school for me and the football program is just growing and growing. I really liked the coaches, too. But academically, this is definitely what I wanted, football-wise, too."

Frank recorded 92 tackles during his junior campaign while playing linebacker.

Howard had 10 receptions for 164 yards and two touchdowns during the 2008 season.

The fourth commitment for the Class of 2010, Andy Phillips of Waverly (Lansing, Mich.) has chosen Central Michigan. The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Phillips was recruited as a defensive end / linebacker.

He told the Lansing State Journal, ""It was one of those things where I knew I wanted to commit before my senior season. I wanted that pressure off because I want to focus on my team, and I don't want to be one of those guys not focused on his team. The more I think about it, I'm on vacation right now and I had time to think. I want to go to a place I love. And I want to go to a place that loves me and trusts me. ... And they're a program going in the right direction."

Last fall he registered 150 tackles despite an ankle injury earning Division 3-4 all-state recognition.

Trevor Demko, a 6-foot-6, 225-pound defensive end from Mount Carmel Area (Mount Carmel, Pa.), has committed to West Virginia's 2010 recruiting class.

He had an offer from Akron, as well as interest from Rutgers, Connecticut and Temple.

"West Virginia just felt right," Demko told the News Item.

As a junior, Demko had 70 tackles, nine sacks, two fumble recoveries, one fumble return for a touchdown and one safety.

Demko is the 12th pledge for the Mountaineers.

Big Watch List running back Roderick Smith to play for the Buckeyes

Running back Roderick Smith from Fort Wayne (Ind.) Harding committed to Ohio State on Wednesday, ESPN's Bill Kurelic reports.

Smith becomes the seventh member of OSU's 2010 recruiting class. As a junior in 2008, he rushed for over 1,200 yards and scored 14 touchdowns.

Smith took an unofficial visit to Ohio State on Wednesday and gave the coaching staff the good news in person. "I'm a Buckeye," Smith told ESPN affiliate Web site Bucknuts.com. "They've been my favorite for a long time and I told the coaches today (Wednesday) on my visit. It feels good."

Smith chose Ohio State over offers from Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State, among others. The Spartans finished second on his list."

"I love everything about Ohio State and I was just ready to get it over with," Smith said. "The coaches were pretty excited about it."

He spoke with ESPN affiliate Web site OUInsider.com about his decision, "It was just the way I was able to learn from Coach (James) Patton. He is a teacher on the field. And the interaction with the two commits, Tyrus Thompson (Pflugerville, Texas) and Bronson Irwin (Mustang, Okla.), kind of got me started on going to Oklahoma."

The Sooners now have nine ESPNU 150 prospects among their 14 commitments.

The 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety also considered Illinois, Missouri, Penn State, Stanford, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana, Vanderbilt and Louisville, among others.
