Heading into the 2004 college football season, an inordinate amount of teams faced questions at the quarterback position. Last April's NFL Draft left the cupboard extremely bare, with four quarterbacks taken in the first round and 17 selected overall. As a result, several marquee teams were rolling the dice with unproven signal-callers.

Many have failed to seize the opportunity – Maryland's Joel Statham, N.C. State's Jay Davis, Texas' Vincent Young, Kansas State's Dylan Meier, Florida State's Chris Rix, Ohio State's Justin Zwick and LSU's Marcus Randall – but some have prospered, keeping their teams in title contention.
