A midseason team-by-team look at the Pac-10.

Arizona
At 1-4, Arizona is in the exact place it was last year, but that's really not even close to being true. John Mackovic was fired after five games in 2003 because the Wildcats had lost by 46, 38 and 52 points. Under new coach Mike Stoops, Arizona has been in every game this season. It should have beaten Wisconsin and Washington State, but it failed to make critical plays at crunch time.

The defense, ranked 22nd in the nation, is vastly improved, but the offense has yet to find itself, particularly in the passing game. While much of that falls on sophomore quarterback Kris Heavner, he also is getting little help from a mediocre group of receivers who have consistently dropped catchable passes down field.
