Clemson

  • The Tigers are in for a rude surprise on Saturday at Florida State. A week after Clemson's offensive line got shoved around by Texas A&M's defensive front, a much better D-line awaits in Tallahassee. "We didn't protect as well as we did the first two games,'' Coach Tommy Bowden said. "Maybe [because it was] a personnel upgrade from the first two games against Wake Forest and Georgia Tech.'' The result is a confidence issue for quarterback Charlie Whitehurst, who was sacked three times, and for the team.

    A similar scenario unfolded a year ago. Clemson lost to Wake Forest, 45-17, then came back and defeated the No. 3-ranked Seminoles, 26-10 a week later.
