Give the Hawkeyes credit for this: They made no attempt to sugercoat their humiliating 44-7 loss to Arizona State. The best quote came from defensive end Matt Roth: "Arizona State did what they wanted to us. We were their whuppin' boys."

  • Both Ferentz and QB Drew Tate took the blame for an offense that managed just 100 yards. Ferentz said the preparation was poor, which is his fault. Tate said his decision-making was weak: "I was probably running when I didn't need to run and I was probably making throws where I didn't need to make throws." The numbers tell the story: A week after completing 16-of-22 passes for 220 yards against Iowa State, Tate was 8-of-19 for 44 yards against ASU.
