Senior linebacker Justin Crooks is the leader of the Baylor defense and showed it Saturday. He may have saved the Bears from a humiliating upset by Texas State with a 9-yard fumble return for a TD in the first quarter and a victory-clinching forced fumble late in the fourth quarter.

Coach Guy Morriss got a better performance from his offense in a 24-17 victory over Division I-AA Texas State than in a humiliating loss at UAB last week, but that may not be saying much. He's still frustrated by the Bears' running game. Morriss thinks his offensive line is good enough to wear on people, but the Bears are averaging only 2.04 yards per carry this season.
